Nantclwyd y Dre is an historic house offering a unique insight into 500years of domestic history, from the medieval up to the 20th century.

Officially awarded hidden gem status by Visit Wales in 2023, the house occupies a prominent position in the centre of town in Castle St. Ruthin.
The interiors reflect the various periods in which the house has been inhabited and boasts extensive gardens to the rear of the property providing a tranquil space in the heart of town.

The house and garden is owned and maintained by Denbighshire County Council with the support of volunteers some of whom are Cyfeillion Nantclwyd y Dre Friends.

Who Are The Friends?

Cyfeillion Nantclwyd y Dre Friends was set up to support Denbighshire County Council when it purchased the house. Some 200 plus members offer their time as volunteers to help in the house and gardens and to organise and run a range of events to attract more people to experience this lovely place and help raise funds to invest further in the property. All are welcome and valued whatever their age or abilities.

The Friends have been closely involved with the development and maintenance of the gardens and continue to provide support for this through volunteering and buying equipment, plants, compost etc. They also help with purchases for the house itself providing equipment (for example) so that people can use the house for talks and films.
There is always something new to see in the garden and the collection in the house is constantly being updated as new and old treasures are found and restored for display.
The Friends host a variety of events likely to appeal to a range of interests. These have included art exhibitions, sustainability events, quilt displays, lively quizzes and are always receptive to new ideas.

Nantclwyd y Dre is a haven for wildlife in the house as well as in the garden. You can catch up on our furry friends in the attics by watching them on the newly installed bat cam.
Alternatively, you may just wish to soak up the peace and tranquillity of the house at quiet times when a cuppa and a comfy chair await you.
